Research & Education Core

The Research and Education Core builds on the strong foundation of the research educational and training programs, infrastructure, resources and expertise at Florida A&M University, University of Florida and University of Southern California to offer “hands-on” research internships, exposure to state-of-the- art research technology and academic and career mentorship. The overarching goal of the REC within the CaRE2 Health Center is to increase the number of  individuals of undergraduates, post-baccalaureate students, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and early-stage investigators (ESIs) who are poised for successful careers as academic scientists focused on reducing cancer differences.

Education Is Crucial

Shadowing in the OR is one of the many motivational experiences that Chante’ has had working in the lab of liver surgeon Dr. Juliet Emamaullee, a CaRE2 ESI.

Postbac-CaRE2

This is a year-long program for candidates with a bachelor’s degree have not yet been admitted to a PhD graduate program or medical school an opportunity to strengthen their applications through cancer research and academic/career opportunities. Mentorship for professional and graduate school application and GRE/MCAT preparation is provided.

Grad+ CaRE2

This program provides academic career development, mentorship, and tailored cancer research education opportunities that will increase the competitive research capacity of graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and ESIs across STEM-related disciplines at FAMU, UF and USC for focused training in cancer differences to augment their existing training (pre- and post-doctoral) training.

What our Students Say

"During the summer of 2019 I was able to be apart of CaRE2 and engage in my very first research experience. I was given the opportunity to step outside of my comfort zone and dive into something different than my nursing background. I now have a great interest in conducting cancer research."
Tiara King
“As a native from the island of Jamaica, I have witnessed the significant importance of proper healthcare and how a lack of it can lead to poor health outcomes. This has impacted me personally because my relatives who are affected by prostate cancer. My research experience has also enabled me to recognize the correlation in the African-American community."
